Melania the Elder & Melania the Younger
Welcome we are Room 102, where the legacies of devotion and enlightenment unfold. We are Melania the Elder and Melania the Younger, two women who deeply shaped the spiritual landscape of Jerusalem and we are honored to be your room during your stay.
Melania the Elder
I embraced Christianity in Rome and sought spiritual refuge in Jerusalem. There, I established a convent and monastery on the Mount of Olives, creating a sanctuary that provided comfort and salvation to countless souls.
Melania the Younger
Inspired by my grandmother’s faith, I followed her path to Jerusalem, founding monastic communities and the Martyrium. My life was one of solitude and deep devotion, contributing to Jerusalem’s rich spiritual heritage.
Queen Sybilla
Welcome I am Room 201, steeped in the history of Jerusalem’s Crusader era. I am Sybilla, born into the Crusader State of Jerusalem in 1160 and destined to rule, and I’m honored to be your room during your stay.
Though I was destined for the convent, fate led me to the throne at a young age. With my brother Baldwin IV’s guidance, I learned to rule and married nobleman Guy. Despite happiness with my new family, I faced great challenges as Queen, including my son’s loss and my husband’s capture by Saladin. Through criticism and hardship, I remained loyal, even in the face of tragedy. As you rest in Room 201, immerse yourself in the echoes of a bygone era where love, loyalty, and sacrifice shaped the course of history.
Queen Melisende
Welcome I am Room 202, where history and legacy intertwine. I am Melisende, daughter of King Baldwin II, and Queen of Jerusalem. I’m honored to be your room during your stay.
Despite challenges posed by my gender, I emerged as a formidable leader, fostering a renaissance of creativity and supporting the Church. My contributions include establishing a school of bookmakers and miniature painters, funding the construction of sacred sites such as the Church of St. Anne and bridging divides between faiths. As you stay in Room 202, let my story inspire your exploration of Jerusalem’s rich history and the enduring landmarks that bear witness to my legacy.
Queen Salome Alexandra
Welcome I am Room 104, where resilience and prosperity define my reign. I am Salome Alexandra, the last reigning queen of independent Judea and I’m honored to be your room during your stay. As a descendant of the Maccabees, I led Judea from 76-67 BCE, fostering prosperity and piety.
I strengthened Jewish religion, and promoted education in synagogues, ensuring future generations would inherit knowledge and faith. I am also believed to have built an aqueduct in Jerusalem. The fertility of the land was legendary, with crops that amazed all who saw them. As you stay in Room 104, let my legacy inspire your exploration of Jerusalem’s rich history, where past and present intertwine.
